Wulfenite crystallizes in the form of masses, grains, pseudo-octahedral crystals, cuboidal and short prismatic pyramidal crystals, and thin tabular crystals. The colour range includes yellow, golden, orange, red, blue, grey, yellow-grey, brown, white, colourless, and ranges of same. The mineral was first reported in 1845 by W. Haidinger and was named for Franz Xavier Wulfen, an Austrian-Hungarian Jesuit and Mineralogist who had written about the Lead ores of Carinthia.
